A Christmas-themed Luna Park opened Tuesday afternoon in Piazzale delle Puglie, adding a seasonal attraction to the city’s winter calendar and extending Trieste’s holiday festivities into the new year.

The fair was inaugurated by Serena Tonel, Trieste’s deputy mayor and councillor for economic development, during a brief ceremony marking the start of the park’s public run. The installation will remain open through Sunday, Jan. 11, 2026.

Set up in one of the city’s central open spaces, the Luna Park brings together a range of traditional fairground rides and holiday-themed attractions designed to appeal to families, children and visitors during the peak Christmas period and the Epiphany holidays. The event is part of Trieste’s broader seasonal programming, which combines cultural initiatives with entertainment and commercial activities across the city.

The park will operate on a varied schedule. On weekdays it will be open from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. On Saturdays and on public and pre-holiday dates, hours will be extended, with opening from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and again from 4 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

City officials said the choice of Piazzale delle Puglie allows for easy access while keeping the fair within walking distance of the historic center and other holiday events. The extended run through early January is intended to accommodate both residents and tourists visiting Trieste during the winter holidays.

With its opening, the Luna Park becomes one of the final major additions to the city’s Christmas season, offering a festive gathering point as Trieste moves from Christmas into the new year.
