On Friday afternoon, the San Giacomo district inaugurated its first-ever Christmas market, marking a new addition to Trieste’s seasonal festivities beyond the historic city center.

The opening took place in Campo San Giacomo in the presence of Deputy Mayor Serena Tonel, who also serves as the city’s councillor for economic development. The market features eight wooden stalls offering traditional Christmas-themed goods, along with entertainment activities designed for children.
Scheduled to run through Sunday, December 21, the San Giacomo market joins a similar initiative recently launched in the Roiano neighborhood. Together, the two markets reflect a broader effort by the city to extend holiday programming into residential districts, complementing the larger and more established Christmas events in central Trieste.
By dispersing seasonal attractions across different neighborhoods, local officials aim to enhance community participation while supporting small vendors during the holiday period.
