The city’s Old Port district, Porto Vecchio – now branded Porto Vivo – will open two of its most historically significant industrial sites to the public for a series of free guided tours in December, offering visitors a closer look at the area’s evolving cultural landscape.

As part of an ongoing agreement between the Municipality of Trieste and Italia Nostra, the national heritage association’s Trieste chapter will lead visits to the former Electrical Substation and the Hydrodynamic Power Plant on December 3, 10 and 17. Each tour lasts approximately 90 minutes and begins at 9:30 a.m., with participants asked to gather at 9:15 a.m. in front of the Electrical Substation at Viale Miramare 24/4.

The initiative is designed to highlight the industrial heritage of Porto Vecchio, a waterfront zone undergoing a long-term transformation into a cultural and innovation district. The Hydrodynamic Power Plant, once essential to the functioning of port machinery, and the early-20th-century Electrical Substation are among the area’s most prominent restored structures.

Advance registration is required at least five days before each visit, and places are limited. Bookings may be made by emailing trieste@italianostra.org, subject to availability.

Italia Nostra has also announced that it is willing to arrange additional visits for groups of at least five people on alternative dates and times, pending volunteer availability and using the same reservation procedure.
