Severe weather continued to batter parts of Friuli Venezia Giulia overnight, leaving residents and business owners struggling to contain rising floodwaters. Among those affected is chef Antonia Klugmann, whose Michelin-starred restaurant, L’Argine a Vencò, was inundated after the Judrio River overflowed its banks.
“We need help — we need someone to help us get the water out. No one has come since last night,” Klugmann wrote on her instagram page, describing a tense and exhausting night spent trying to protect her restaurant.
According to Klugmann, water levels began rising around 10 p.m. She and her team attempted to safeguard the kitchen and dining room using the sandbags they had on hand. Firefighters evacuated guests and staff around midnight, she said, but did not return.
“The firefighters evacuated everyone, but after that we didn’t see anyone else here except the mayor,” she said. “We need help — we need sandbags and pumps to clear the water from the rooms. Otherwise, years of work and investment will be lost.”
Flooding has been reported across the region as heavy rainfall continues, overwhelming local waterways and prompting calls for additional emergency resources. Authorities have not yet provided details on when assistance will reach the restaurant or surrounding properties.
