Every Sunday afternoon through November, the Ubik bookstore in Trieste’s Galleria Tergesteo (Piazza della Borsa 15) transforms into a creative hub for young readers. The series, titled “Giocoleggiamo?” (“Let’s Play and Read”), offers literary workshops designed to spark children’s imaginations through storytelling, drawing, and hands-on bookmaking.
The next session, scheduled for Sunday, October 26, at 4:30 p.m., will be led by writer Mauro Longo, author of L’anello di Oricalco (Edizioni EL). In a workshop titled “Become the Hero of a Fantasy,” Longo will invite children aged ten and up to step into an imaginary world in search of a lost ring, while revealing some of the secrets behind creating a successful interactive gamebook.
Each Sunday, a different author or illustrator leads a new activity, tailored to various age groups. Upcoming sessions include:
- November 2: “Follow Little Wolf in the Autumn Woods,” with Alessandro Montagnana, inspired by Gita nel bosco (Emme Edizioni), for children aged 3 to 6.
- November 9: “Discover the Tricks of a Mystery Story,” with Cristina Marsi, author of Bandiera Gialla(Pelledoca), for ages 7 and up.
- November 16: “Invent Your Own Secret City,” with Cristina Ki Casini, based on her interactive book Inventa una città (Lavieri), for ages 6 to 12.
- November 23: “A New Friend to Draw,” with illustrator Sara Not, inspired by Zeno e Nero (Einaudi Ragazzi), for ages 6 to 8.
- November 30: “Make a Book with Your Own Hands,” with Hannah Sanguinetti, who will guide participants through the process of crafting their own handmade book using paper, fabric, and thread, for ages 6 and up.
The series aims to promote reading as an active, playful experience, blending art, literature, and imagination. Admission is free, though reservations are recommended.
