The regional government of Friuli Venezia Giulia has approved a new initiative to provide municipalities with funding to enhance security around facilities hosting unaccompanied foreign minors. The program, totaling €100,000 for 2025, aims to support local authorities in safeguarding both the communities and the surrounding neighborhoods.

Pierpaolo Roberti, regional councillor for local autonomies, public administration, security, and immigration, said the initiative provides “quick resources and clear rules for installing or upgrading video surveillance near centers for unaccompanied minors. It is a targeted intervention that helps mayors monitor their territories and promote peaceful coexistence, with clear timelines and simple criteria.”

The funding, authorized under regional law 12 of August 6, 2025, is intended for municipalities hosting socio-educational communities defined as centers for unaccompanied foreign minors by a regional decree issued in December 2022. Eligible projects include the installation or enhancement of video surveillance systems in public areas within 500 meters of the facilities. Surveillance equipment must comply with technical standards set by the regional civil protection office.

According to Roberti, the program prioritizes projects that are immediately implementable, emphasizing collaboration with local authorities and adherence to shared technical standards to ensure uniform quality.

Municipalities that were former provincial capitals may request up to €20,000, while other municipalities may apply for up to €10,000. Applications will be assessed on a rolling basis until funds are exhausted.

The deadline for submissions is 11:59 p.m. on November 17, 2025. Municipalities must submit applications through the regional portal for local autonomies and via certified email, as detailed in the official call.
