The City of Trieste has announced a series of temporary traffic and parking restrictions ahead of the annual Corsa dei Due Castelli, a competitive road race taking place on Sunday, October 19, 2025. The measures, outlined in Municipal Ordinance No. 952-25, will affect several key streets between the Miramare area and the city center.
According to the ordinance, parking and stopping will be prohibited — with removal enforced — from midnight until 2 p.m. on October 19, or until the event concludes. The restrictions apply to both sides of viale Miramare, portions of piazza Della Libertà, largo Città di Santos, and several connecting streets, including sections of corso Cavour, riva Tre Novembre, and riva Caduti per l’Italianità.
The city will also impose several traffic closures and diversions during the race. From 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., vehicle access will be restricted on key stretches of viale Miramare, including between Miramare Park and largo Roiano, as well as within the Porto Vecchio (also known as Porto Vivo) area. Temporary one-way traffic will be introduced on certain uphill routes toward Sistiana, and lane reductions will be in effect along other sections to accommodate runners.
Between 8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., additional closures will affect corso Cavour, riva Tre Novembre, and riva Caduti per l’Italianità up to piazza dell’Unità d’Italia. Cyclists and pedestrians should note that bike lanes within the Porto Vecchio complex and along connecting roads will also be temporarily inaccessible.
Drivers will be required to follow detour signs, including a mandatory right turn from via Valdirivo onto piazza Della Libertà during the event.
From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., access to the waterfront area — from riva del Mandracchio to piazza Nicolò Tommaseo — will also be restricted to vehicular traffic.
Taxi service will experience some temporary changes as well. Designated taxi stands in piazzale 11 Settembre 2001 and near the railway station on viale Miramare will be suspended during the event. A temporary taxi parking area will be established in piazza Della Libertà, on the garden side between via Carlo Ghega and via Benvenuto Cellini.
Limited exemptions will be granted to police vehicles, as determined by the Trieste Police Headquarters.
The Corsa dei Due Castelli — which traditionally links Miramare Castle and San Giusto Castle — is expected to draw hundreds of athletes and spectators. City officials are advising residents and visitors to plan travel accordingly, use public transportation when possible, and respect the temporary traffic measures in place to ensure safety during the event.
