More than 16,000 high school students have registered for the University of Trieste’s fall open days, Porte Aperte 2025, which began on October 15 and run through October 17. The three-day orientation event is designed to guide students in their final years of high school as they choose their academic paths, offering a detailed overview of the university’s undergraduate and integrated master’s programs.
Held at the university’s main campus in Piazzale Europa, the event draws students not only from across Friuli Venezia Giulia but also from other Italian regions including Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige, Lombardy, Piedmont, Marche, Emilia-Romagna, Puglia, Sardinia, and Sicily. As in previous years, students from neighboring Slovenia and Croatia are also attending, reflecting the institution’s strong cross-border appeal.
The program opened in the university’s main auditorium with welcome remarks from Rector Donata Vianelli and Professor Elisabetta Madriz, delegate for orientation projects. The first day focused on courses in the social sciences and humanities, which received 4,870 registrations. The second day, October 16, highlights programs in science and technology (4,743 registrations), while the final day, October 17, will be dedicated to life and health sciences (6,020 registrations).
In addition to academic presentations, each day features guided tours of the campus and afternoon sessions introducing students to university services. Topics include tuition fees, disability support, merit awards, international mobility programs such as Erasmus, and career guidance through the university’s Career Service. Representatives from the Regional Agency for the Right to Higher Education (ARDiS), the Luciano Fonda Honors College, and the University Sports Center (CUS) will also take part.
Information desks are available without appointment in the main building’s atrium, while one classroom each day is set aside for informal peer-to-peer discussions, where current UniTS students share their experiences and answer questions about university life.
