On Sunday, October 12, the Gulf of Trieste will once again host the Barcolana, the 57th edition of what is widely regarded as the world’s largest sailing regatta. The event, which draws thousands of participants and visitors from around the world, remains one of the most anticipated annual gatherings in Friuli Venezia Giulia.
To mark the occasion, the Miramare Historical Museum is offering visitors a rare opportunity to access the castle’s tower — a panoramic vantage point overlooking the racecourse and the Gulf. From this elevated spot, spectators will be able to follow the regatta’s dramatic turns, including the buoy located just off Miramare, where the competing boats pivot toward the finish line in Piazza Unità d’Italia.
The race will begin at 10:30 a.m., with the starting line set between Barcola and Miramare. The museum has scheduled four visiting sessions to the tower between 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., allowing a limited number of guests to experience the event from one of Trieste’s most striking viewpoints.
With more than two thousand entries expected, Barcolana 2025 promises once again to blend maritime tradition, competition, and the unmistakable charm of the Adriatic city that hosts it.
