The City of Trieste has announced a major technological upgrade to its traffic light network as part of a public-private partnership agreement with Edison Next. The project involves the replacement of all existing traffic signal controllers with new, state-of-the-art systems.

In total, 69 traffic regulators across the city will be replaced. During the course of the work, the city’s coordinated “green wave” — a system designed to optimize traffic flow by synchronizing lights along key routes — will be temporarily suspended on the affected roads.

Officials confirmed that the “green wave” will be reinstated once the upgrades are completed on each corridor. The modernization effort aims to improve traffic efficiency and lay the groundwork for more advanced, adaptive traffic management in the future.
