Italian singer-songwriter Diodato will perform in Trieste’s Piazza Ponterosso this evening, marking the official opening of the Barcolana sailing festival. The concert, organized in collaboration with Vigna PR and FVG Music Live, continues a Barcolana tradition of offering a major live performance ahead of the regatta.

Diodato, best known for winning the 2020 Sanremo Festival with Fai rumore, last performed in Friuli Venezia Giulia five years ago at the Laghi di Fusine. His return to the region launches a week of events leading up to the regatta, which remains one of the Adriatic’s most celebrated maritime gatherings.
Since 2016, Barcolana has opened with a free concert the weekend before the race. “The idea was to give the city a shared moment of celebration before the regatta,” said Luigi Vignando of Vigna PR.
Entry to Piazza Ponterosso begins at 7:30 p.m., with two access points—one at Via Roma and Piazza della Borsa, and another across the nearby bridge. The venue can hold up to 5,000 people, and security measures will prohibit glass and sharp objects.
Diodato’s performance underscores Barcolana’s growing reputation as both a sporting and cultural event, uniting Trieste through its twin passions for the sea and music.
