On Saturday, September 20, and Sunday, September 21, the Risiera di San Sabba will host Terra Contaminata, a site-specific performative tour organized by Archiviozeta, a theater company known for its work in historical and memorial spaces.
The performance will be presented in six sessions: three on Saturday at 4 p.m., 6 p.m., and 8 p.m., and three on Sunday at 11 a.m., 4 p.m., and 6 p.m. Admission is free, but space is limited. Visitors are encouraged to reserve a spot by emailing risierasansabba@comune.trieste.it with their name, the preferred date, and time. The event will proceed even in the event of light rain.
Archiviozeta returns to the Risiera following the success of its 2023 production of Elie Wiesel’s Night. The new performance offers an immersive exploration of the museum and national monument, spaces imbued with historical significance that, as the title suggests, carry the weight of their past.
Terra Contaminata is a world premiere, written specifically for the Risiera by Archiviozeta actors and directors Enrica Sangiovanni and Gianluca Guidotti, with historical consultation from independent researcher Elena Pirazzoli, an expert in memorial studies and visual culture. The performance will feature Guidotti, Giuseppe Losacco, Francesca Mazza, Pirazzoli, and Sangiovanni.
The event is part of the Risiera di San Sabba Museum–National Monument’s 2025 cultural program, which commemorates the 80th anniversary of Liberation (1945), the 60th anniversary of its designation as a national monument (1965), and the 50th anniversary of its opening as a public museum and memorial (1975).
The program is curated by museum conservator Anna Krekic, with support from the Museum Commission, and is promoted by the City of Trieste’s Department of Culture and Tourism, with contributions from the Italian Ministry of Culture.
