Beginning September 1, the Regional Agency for the Right to Education (ARDiS) will take over the management of the former Military Hospital complex in Trieste. The move follows an agreement signed with the University of Trieste and will see the facility transformed into a new student residence, expanding the city’s university housing options.

The announcement was made by Alessia Rosolen, the regional councillor for University and Education, who stated that the initiative is aimed at increasing the number of accommodations available to university students. The focus will be on students who are academically qualified and fall within the regional rankings for housing support, particularly those with limited financial means.

The conversion of the historic site is set to offer immediate relief amid ongoing maintenance work at the E4 residence, another key student housing facility in the city.

In parallel, the region is also developing a new student residence on the site of the former Rossetti barracks. The planned facility will provide at least 50 beds and include shared living spaces, specifically designed to support students enrolled in medical-related programs.

The initiatives form part of a broader strategy by local authorities to expand student infrastructure in Trieste, a city known for its academic and scientific institutions.
