Trieste continues its summer cultural program, Trieste Estate, with a series of events combining archaeology, music, and curated lectures from Tuesday, July 22 through Thursday, July 24. Among the highlights is the return of the Archeologia di Sera series at the Giardino del Museo d’Antichità J. J. Winckelmann.

On Tuesday, July 22 at 8:30 p.m., archaeologist Nadia Pezzulla will deliver a lecture titled “Archeologia dell’infanzia in Friuli Venezia Giulia: uno stato dell’arte” (Archaeology of Childhood in Friuli Venezia Giulia: A State of the Art), offering a rare look at a developing field within Italian archaeology. The event is free and open to the public.

Pezzulla’s talk will examine how recent archaeological research—particularly over the past decade—has begun to uncover insights into the lives of children in ancient societies. The lecture will include selected case studies from various archaeological sites across the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, spanning different historical periods and cultures. These findings help reconstruct aspects of childhood in the ancient world, an area that remains underrepresented in public discourse.

Pezzulla, who holds a Ph.D. and currently serves as a senior cultural officer for the Civic Museums of Trieste in the Artistic Museums division, brings academic rigor and curatorial experience to the presentation.

The Trieste Estate program, organized by the city’s Department of Culture, continues to attract both residents and visitors with its blend of scholarly content and accessible public programming, underscoring Trieste’s role as a cultural hub in northeastern Italy. Further events in the program include open-air concerts, theatrical performances, and interdisciplinary talks across historic venues in the city.
