The region of Friuli Venezia Giulia has signed a cooperation agreement with Ukraine’s Odesa region, marking a step toward deeper ties in trade, industry, science, culture, tourism, and sports. The deal was formalized in Rome during the Ukrainian Recovery Conference, an annual event focused on rebuilding Ukraine’s infrastructure and institutions amid the ongoing war.
Speaking at the signing, Friuli Venezia Giulia Governor Massimiliano Fedriga emphasized the strategic and long-term nature of the agreement.
“The goal is to build a broad and meaningful collaboration that goes beyond the immediate context of war,” Fedriga said. “Even within its scope, this partnership helps strengthen the relationship between Ukraine, Italy, and Europe.”
The Ukrainian Recovery Conference, hosted this year under the aegis of the Italian government, brought together heads of state, senior officials, and business leaders to chart a course for Ukraine’s future.
The memorandum of understanding outlines plans to create concrete opportunities for businesses and local communities in both regions. It aims to stimulate investment, generate employment, and encourage knowledge exchange — part of a broader European effort to support Ukraine’s recovery through regional cooperation.
Officials on both sides expressed optimism that the agreement would translate into practical initiatives with lasting impact, particularly in sectors where Friuli Venezia Giulia and Odesa share common strengths and ambitions.
