Regional Civil Protection authorities in Friuli Venezia Giulia region issued a pre-alert decree on Sunday as the weather alert level was raised from yellow to orange in response to forecasted severe thunderstorms, strong winds, and hail. The decree, announced by Regional Civil Protection Councilor Riccardo Riccardi, covers the provinces of Pordenone and Trieste, as well as the central and southern areas of Friuli, with the most intense conditions expected along the coastal zone.

Only the mountainous Alto Friuli area remains under a yellow alert.

The orange-level warning, indicating moderate risk, went into effect at 4 p.m. local time on Sunday and will remain active until 8 a.m. on Monday, July 7.

As part of the emergency response, the regional government has allocated €500,000 to fund initial safety and stabilization measures across affected areas.

According to meteorological forecasts, an Atlantic trough is advancing over Europe, bringing moist and unstable southwesterly air currents to northern Italy through Tuesday. These conditions are expected to trigger a series of storm fronts — the first arriving overnight between Sunday and Monday, with another anticipated the following night.

Authorities are urging residents to stay informed through official channels and take necessary precautions, particularly in low-lying and coastal areas vulnerable to flash flooding and wind damage.
