The European Committee of the Regions has announced that the annual event of the European Cross-Border Platform will take place in Gorizia on November 13–14, 2025. The selection of Gorizia, a city on the Italian-Slovenian border, was welcomed by regional officials as a recognition of Friuli Venezia Giulia’s growing role in fostering cross-border cooperation.
“We welcome with great satisfaction the announcement from the Committee of the Regions,” said Massimiliano Fedriga, president of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. “This is an important milestone and an acknowledgment of the strategic value that our region has built over time in cross-border collaboration.”
According to Fedriga, the decision to hold the event in Gorizia highlights the increasing importance of the region within the European context. He pointed to recent initiatives in cross-border relations and regional cohesion, emphasizing the joint Italian-Slovenian effort behind GO!2025 – Nova Gorica and Gorizia European Capital of Culture as a “concrete and forward-looking” example of what Friuli Venezia Giulia represents in today’s Europe.
The two-day event is organized in collaboration with the Association of European Border Regions. The first day will focus on case studies and best practices in cross-border cooperation, with participants including institutional representatives, technical experts, and stakeholders from across Europe. The second day will host a meeting of all existing European Groupings of Territorial Cooperation (EGTCs).
The event is expected to draw significant attention to Gorizia and the broader border region, highlighting the evolving role of cross-national collaboration in shaping regional development and European integration.
