June 9th saw the return of Trieste’s famed wind, the Bora—known affectionately as “Borin” by locals. As gusts swept through the city at full force, we wandered downtown to see how people were faring. Some braced themselves behind scarves and sunglasses, while others leaned into the thrill. “It’s part of who we are,” said one local. Tourists seemed equally delighted, snapping selfies as hair and hats flew. Love it or loathe it, the Bora is unmistakably Triestine—and today, it’s taking center stage in the city’s summer kickoff.
