As summer unfolds in the Dolomites, the mountain town of Forni di Sopra is experiencing a vibrant surge in tourism, fueled by a renewed strategy to expand and diversify its appeal beyond the winter months.

Sergio Emidio Bini, Regional Councillor for Economic Development and Tourism, announced plans for more than €8 million in investments from 2025 through 2027 aimed at enhancing the area’s outdoor recreational facilities and hospitality infrastructure.

Speaking after a meeting at the town hall with Mayor Iginio Coradazzi and Deputy Minister for Environment and Energy Security Vannia Gava, Bini said the initiative reflects a long-term vision for sustainable mountain tourism.

“Since the start of 2025, tourist visits to Forni di Sopra have increased by nearly 23%, confirming that our strategy to develop mountain tourism year-round is bearing fruit,” Bini said. “We’re committed to strengthening this momentum through targeted investments in both winter and summer attractions.”

Key projects include the renovation of mountain restaurants, upgrades to ski lift services now repurposed for summer activities, and the creation of a high-altitude ski school area that will serve as a training ground year-round. Additionally, the plan calls for expanding the children’s playground and developing new mountain biking trails to attract adventure seekers.

Already, €2 million of the investment budget has been deployed, signaling rapid progress.

With the official summer season launching this weekend alongside the traditional Festa delle Erbe, local leaders are optimistic that the area’s natural beauty and improved facilities will continue to draw visitors. The reopening of the Varmost 1 and 2 chairlifts on July 5 will enable hikers, bikers, and sightseers to access higher altitudes daily through early September.

“This is a sign of Forni di Sopra’s revived appeal throughout the year,” Bini added. “We are confident that the upcoming summer season will further confirm the success of our development efforts.”

The region’s approach mirrors a growing trend among Alpine destinations to balance winter sports with vibrant summer tourism, promoting outdoor leisure, family activities, and cultural events that extend the mountain economy well beyond the snow season.
