With beach establishments across Friuli Venezia Giulia set to open this weekend, May 31–June 1, the countdown to summer has officially begun. While forecasts promise sunny skies, many Trieste locals told us they’ve yet to dive into the season—holding off due to last week’s cooler, unsettled weather. “We’re waiting for real summer to arrive,” one resident said. Still, along Barcola’s waterfront, early risers are already claiming sunbathing spots. As umbrellas go up and beach cafés reopen, the region is poised for a lively start—just as soon as the sun decides to stay.
