On Monday, local officials inaugurated the Roiano neighborhood’s newest infrastructure project: a two-level parking facility designed to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance accessibility for residents. The ceremony took place at the parking structure’s entrance on Via Montorsino, drawing local leaders, including Mayor Roberto Dipiazza and Councillor Elisa Lodi, as well as members of the community.
The facility, built on the site of the former Traffic Police barracks, offers 99 parking spaces, including two designated for disabled drivers. Managed by Esatto S.p.A., the parking lot will operate under a rotating system, with rates aimed at affordability: €0.50 per hour during the day for the first three hours, increasing to €1 for extended stays, and just €0.25 per hour at night.
“This parking lot is a long-awaited improvement for Roiano,” said Mayor Dipiazza during his remarks. “It’s the culmination of over two decades of planning and effort, and I’m confident it will make a meaningful difference for local residents.”
The site represents more than just a parking solution. Part of an €8.45 million urban redevelopment project, the area, once occupied by barracks, now features a daycare center, a playground, and landscaped green spaces. The parking facility itself has a rooftop green area that integrates with the surrounding park, blending urban infrastructure with community-centered design.
Councillor Lodi emphasized the facility’s importance in improving traffic flow and offering convenience to residents. “With this project, we’re not only addressing congestion but also enhancing the overall livability of the area,” she said.
Community members and stakeholders expressed optimism about the parking lot’s impact, noting that the neighborhood has faced longstanding issues with limited parking availability and traffic bottlenecks.
The parking lot’s design includes separate entrance and exit points to streamline traffic: vehicles enter from Via Moreri and exit onto Via Montorsino. This layout, officials say, will minimize disruptions to local streets and improve overall traffic flow in the area.
The opening of the Roiano parking facility marks another step in Trieste’s ongoing efforts to modernize its infrastructure and address the needs of its residents.
