For the 2023 holiday season, ‘The Nutcracker’ returns in a new and opulent production, directed and choreographed by Luciano Cannito, and performed by the talented dancers of the Roma City Ballet Company, marking their debut at the Rossetti stage. This Italian ensemble, formed through international auditions, has quickly risen to become one of the nation’s premier classical dance companies, renowned for its technical prowess.
Originally staged at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo and later revived at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Cannito’s production adds depth to the character of Drosselmeyer, portrayed by the distinguished character dancer Manuel Paruccini. He will gift young Clara a wondrous Christmas night, unfolding in a dream where sweets and toys come to life, accompanied by a handsome Nutcracker Prince and a delightful Sugar Plum Fairy. The spectacle, featuring costumes by Giusi Giustino and sets by Italo Grassi, will showcase around thirty artists from the company, led by the internationally acclaimed guest étoiles from the Berlin Opera House, Iana Salenko and Dinu Tamazlacaru.
