A brush fire broke out near the Austro-Hungarian military cemetery in Aurisina this Sunday, prompting a coordinated emergency response from local and regional authorities.

Firefighters, civil protection volunteers and forestry personnel were dispatched to the scene to contain the flames, which spread across a rugged area that has complicated ground operations. The response included teams from the municipal civil protection group of Duino-Aurisina, the fire brigade and the regional forestry corps of Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Additional support arrived from Trieste, where six civil protection volunteers joined local crews and volunteers from nearby communities. An aerial unit from the civil protection agency carried out multiple water drops, drawing from a nearby fixed reservoir to assist in slowing the fire’s advance.

Authorities said the fire has now entered a containment and cleanup phase, though efforts remain challenging because of the area’s steep and uneven terrain, which limits access for teams operating on the ground.

Residents are now being urged to avoid the affected area so that emergency crews can continue to operate safely and without obstruction. Local officials said the situation remains under close monitoring as operations continue.
