On May 7, the renowned tenor Andrea Bocelli will perform a special concert in Gemona del Friuli, marking the 50th anniversary of the 1976 Friuli earthquake. The event is scheduled for 8 p.m. at the Goi Pantanali barracks, a site that has become emblematic of both the tragedy and the subsequent recovery.

Regional authorities described the concert as more than a musical performance, highlighting its role in collective remembrance. Massimiliano Fedriga, governor of Friuli Venezia Giulia, said the event underscores the region’s resilience and pays tribute to those who lost their lives. “The presence of an internationally recognized artist like Andrea Bocelli gives this occasion a global resonance, conveying a universal message: from pain, new hope can emerge,” he said.

Riccardo Riccardi, regional councillor for Health and Civil Protection, emphasized the significance of commemorating the disaster and supporting communities still affected by its legacy. “Fifty years on, the memory of those days remains vivid,” he said, noting that preparations for the concert involve extensive logistical planning, safety measures, and crowd management to accommodate the expected large attendance.

The free, ticketed event is part of the official regional calendar of commemorations, organized in collaboration with local institutions, cultural and social organizations, and religious authorities. Over 15,000 attendees are expected to join Bocelli on a stage featuring an orchestra and choir, totaling more than 100 performers.

Officials described the concert as an opportunity to transform remembrance into a shared message of hope, renewal, and community solidarity. Tickets will be available on Ticketone.it starting at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 25. Additional information is available on the websites of the Friuli Venezia Giulia regional government and regional Civil Protection office.
