At Libreria Ubik Trieste, a series of children’s workshops is returning this spring, inviting young readers to explore storytelling through games, illustrations and interactive activities.
The program, titled “Giocoleggiamo?” (“Shall We Read and Play?”), runs between March and May and features meetings with authors and illustrators. Designed primarily for children ages 3 and up, the sessions combine reading with creative activities intended to introduce themes such as nature, emotions and imagination.
Participation is free, though reservations are requested by email, phone or social media through the bookstore.
The first event is scheduled for March 8 and will feature writer Stefano Bortolotti and illustrator Alessandro Montagnana, who will present their picture book La primavera di Tasso Torquato, published by Emme Edizioni. Intended for children ages 3 and older, the story follows Torquato the badger as he wakes from hibernation to discover that spring has arrived in the forest. While nature celebrates the new season, Torquato initially feels uncertain and a little sad. Through encounters and small discoveries, he gradually learns to rediscover joy. The book gently addresses emotions familiar to young children — confusion, the challenge of starting again and the importance of companionship — encouraging them to recognize and understand their feelings.
Another workshop is planned for March 29 with illustrator and author Dunja Jogan. Drawing from her bilingual Italian-Slovenian book Doma, v morju / A casa, nel mare, published by Mladika, Jogan will introduce children ages 3 to 6 to the marine life of the Gulf of Trieste. The workshop explores the underwater world inhabited by sardines, red mullet, sea bream, anchovies and mackerel, highlighting the distinctive habits of these species through storytelling and illustration.
