The funeral for Giovanni, a 9-year-old boy who was killed by his mother, Olena Stasiuk, was held on Tuesday at the Duomo in Muggia. The white coffin, adorned with a floral wreath, was brought to Piazza Marconi by hearse and carried inside the cathedral, where mourners, including the boy’s father, gathered to pay their respects before a ceremony led by parish priest Don Andrea Destradi.

Despite heavy rain, many residents stayed outside to follow the funeral proceedings. Piazza Marconi is not only home to the cathedral but also to the apartment where the boy was killed on November 12.

The church was opened for an hour before the service to allow members of the public to pay their respects. The wake was arranged by parish priest Don Andrea Destradi, who led the ceremony at 11 a.m. Afterward, a funeral procession moved to the local cemetery.
