The city’s series of cultural events dedicated to J.R.R. Tolkien will continue on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, with a program at the Salone degli Incanti that brings together literature, myth, and science.

Part of the cycle Tolkien nei Musei (“Tolkien in the Museums”), organized in conjunction with the exhibition Tolkien. Uomo, Professore, Autore by the Civic Historical, Artistic, and Scientific Museums of Trieste, the event is titled Fantastic Animals at the Museum of Natural History. It will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Salone’s auditorium.

The presentation will be led by Deborah Arbulla, curator at Trieste’s Civic Museum of Natural History, and will explore the museum’s animal specimens through a different lens—inviting visitors to see connections between scientific collections and the mythical creatures of literature and legend. References will range from Homer’s Odyssey and the labors of Hercules to dragons, forest-dwelling hobbits, and deep-sea monsters.

Admission is free until capacity is reached. For the occasion, the Tolkien exhibition will remain open until 8 p.m., with the ticket office closing at 7 p.m.
