A gondola carrying a group of tourists capsized on Sunday morning in central Venice, sending its passengers and the gondolier into the waters of a narrow canal. No injuries were reported.

The incident occurred in the Rio dei Greci, a canal in the Castello district that offers limited space for maneuvering. According to initial reports, the gondola may have overturned after passengers shifted suddenly to one side, possibly while attempting to take a group photograph.

Bystanders assisted the tourists, who clung to window grates and nearby boats before making their way to a small bridge close to the scene. All of the passengers were able to leave the water safely.

The accident recalls a similar episode in November 2023, when a gondola overturned after tourists ignored warnings to remain seated and continued moving around to take selfies.

Venice’s gondoliers, whose flat-bottomed boats have been a fixture of the city’s waterways for centuries, often caution visitors that the vessels can become unstable if weight is unevenly distributed.
