City officials and cultural representatives gathered this morning at the Municipal Council Hall to unveil the program of events marking the bicentennial of the Sant’Anna Monumental Cemetery, one of Trieste’s most historically significant sites.

The press conference was attended by Alberto Polacco, municipal councilor and head of the Forza Italia group; Giorgio Tagliapietra, a senior official from the city’s mobility and traffic service; Massimo Carratù, head of Technical Customer Management at AcegasApsAmga (the city’s public utilities provider); and Claudia Crosera, representing the regional Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of Friuli Venezia Giulia.

In his remarks, Polacco conveyed greetings on behalf of Sandra Savino, the municipal assessor responsible for general services, including cemetery affairs. He extended thanks to the city offices, AcegasApsAmga, and Divulgando Srl — a communications company involved in the project — for their contributions to organizing the commemorative events.

Though specific details of the program were not fully disclosed during the presentation, speakers emphasized the importance of honoring the cemetery’s architectural, artistic, and cultural heritage. Founded in 1825, the Sant’Anna Cemetery is considered a valuable repository of local history, with burial monuments that reflect the diverse social and cultural fabric of Trieste through the centuries.

Additional events and initiatives are expected to involve guided tours, exhibitions, and educational programs aimed at fostering public awareness of the cemetery’s role in the city’s identity.
