Interviews: former rector of the University of Trieste, Roberto Di Lenarda; rector of the University of Trieste, Donata Vianelli
Donata Vianelli today begins her term as rector of the University of Trieste, becoming the first woman to hold the university’s highest academic office since its founding.
A professor of Business Economics and Management, Vianelli is the 16th individual to serve in the role. Her appointment marks a milestone for the university, located in northeastern Italy, as it continues to evolve in both leadership and academic vision.
Vianelli succeeds outgoing rector Roberto Di Lenarda. The transition, described by university officials as smooth and collaborative, signals a commitment to institutional continuity and shared governance.
Speaking to InTrieste, Vianelli said she hopes her appointment will serve as an example for future generations of women in academia and leadership. “It’s a message to all the young women out there,” she said, “that they can do this too.”
