The city of Trieste today unveiled Mondi Astrali (“Astral Worlds”), a new exhibition featuring more than 50 works by Triestine artist and architect Carmelo Nino Trovato. The exhibit will run from June 7 through August 3, 2025, at the Arturo Nathan Hall in Magazzino 26, located in the historic Porto Vecchio-Porto Vivo district.
Curated by Sebastiano Daverio and organized by the Municipality of Trieste, the show offers an in-depth look at Trovato’s otherworldly imagery and technical precision, the result of decades of training and practice both in Italy and abroad. A preview for the press was held Thursday, introduced by Giorgio Rossi, Trieste’s Councilor for Culture and Tourism, alongside the artist and curator.
The exhibition officially opens to the public on Friday, June 6, at 5:30 p.m., with both Trovato and Daverio in attendance.
The initiative also holds a strong personal resonance: Sebastiano Daverio follows in the footsteps of his late father, renowned art historian and television personality Philippe Daverio, who was a longtime admirer of Trovato’s work and presented three of his solo exhibitions during his lifetime. Elena Gregori Daverio, Philippe’s widow, is expected to be present at the opening to reflect on the close friendship between the critic and the artist.
Councillor Rossi, speaking at the preview, praised Trovato as “one of the most talented artists Trieste has produced,” noting their longstanding personal and professional relationship. He also expressed appreciation for Sebastiano Daverio’s presence and commitment to continuing his father’s legacy.
The exhibition forms part of a broader cultural revitalization of Porto Vecchio, Trieste’s old port, which is being reimagined as a contemporary cultural hub while preserving its historic character.
