Veneto governor Luca Zaia announced the new fines, which will be applicable at regional level.
Italy’s Veneto region has introduced fines of €1,000 for those who break quarantine rules, amid a fresh outbreak of the virus which was caused by a businessman from Vicenza who failed to self-isolate on returning to the region from Serbia on 25 June, despite feeling symptoms the same day.
Governor Luca Zaia expressed his anger at the “irresponsible behavior” of the businessman who is now in hospital in a serious but stable condition.
