Trieste’s network of civic museums will once again participate in #DomenicaalMuseo on December 7, a national initiative promoted by Italy’s Ministry of Culture that offers free admission to cultural institutions on the first Sunday of every month.
The program applies to the city’s museums that typically require an entrance fee, including the Revoltella Museum, San Giusto Castle, the Carlo Schmidl Theatre Museum, the Diego de Henriquez War for Peace Museum, and the Museum of Natural History.
Visitors interested in exploring San Giusto Castle more deeply may join a scheduled guided tour at 11:30 a.m., available for €7 per person.
Several city institutions remain free year-round. These include the Sea Museum, the Museum of Oriental Art, the Sartorio Museum, the J.J. Winckelmann Antiquities Museum, the Risiera di San Sabba, the Basovizza Foiba Documentation Center, the Risorgimento Museum and Oberdan Memorial, LETS Literature Trieste, and the Petrarchesco Piccolomineo Museum. Admission is also free to temporary exhibitions hosted at Magazzino 26 in the Porto Vecchio district.
The initiative does not cover temporary exhibitions that are not included in a museum’s standard ticket, nor the large-scale shows staged at the Salone degli Incanti.
In addition, all civic museums in Trieste will remain open on Monday, December 8, observing regular hours and ticketing policies, offering an extra opportunity for residents and visitors to engage with the city’s cultural heritage over the holiday weekend.
More information on collections and opening times is available on the institutions’ individual websites and on TriesteCultura.it.
