The Friuli Venezia Giulia region will honor six initiatives focused on water resources, energy and climate this evening at the Teatro Verdi, as part of the first edition of the FVGreen sustainability awards.

The awards, established by the regional government, aim to recognize businesses, startups, public institutions, schools, citizens and nonprofit organizations investing in environmentally focused innovation and projects with measurable ecological impact.

“We created the FVGreen Prize to promote those who are dedicating resources, energy and professionalism to sustainability through concrete projects, far from ideological approaches,” said Fabio Scoccimarro, the regional councillor for environmental protection, at a presentation of the initiative in Trieste.

Scoccimarro described the effort as part of the region’s broader strategy to support long-term sustainable growth. “We are symbolically planting trees that will provide shade for future generations,” he said, adding that the government seeks to meet current economic and social needs without compromising opportunities for those to come.

Friuli Venezia Giulia has positioned itself as a national leader in sustainability policy, Scoccimarro noted, highlighting actions such as the reconversion of the Ferriera industrial site, the modernization of the A2A power plant, incentives for private and corporate renewable-energy investment and regulations supporting environmentally responsible events.

An independent jury chaired by Edo Ronchi, former Italian environment minister and author of several environmental policy publications, selected the winning projects based on innovation, environmental benefit, social and economic impact and potential for wider adoption.

The awards ceremony, scheduled for 8 p.m., will also feature appearances by journalists Tommaso Cerno and Andro Merkù, a performance by the Nuova Orchestra Ferruccio Busoni conducted by Massimo Belli and a solo by the young Triestine violinist Pierpaolo Foti.

Admission is free, with registration available through an online form on the event’s website.
