The Teatro Verdi in Trieste continues its commitment to making classical opera accessible to younger audiences with a new one-act adaptation of Le Nozze di Figaro, subtitled Fantasia in un atto da Le Nozze di Figaro. The production, which runs from October 29 to November 12, 2025, at the Sala Victor de Sabata, offers a lively reimagining of Mozart’s masterpiece enriched with musical contributions from Rossini.

The orchestration, newly arranged by composer Paola Magnanini, and the libretto, adapted by Trieste native Andrea Binetti, transform the celebrated opera into a concise, engaging format aimed at children and families. The initiative is part of Teatro Verdi’s broader mission to nurture future audiences through playful yet educational interpretations of the classical repertoire.

Binetti, a familiar face in Trieste’s cultural scene, also directs the production and appears on stage in the dual role of Figaro and Narrator. The cast includes Atefeh Kadkhodazadeh as Susanna, Veronika Foia as the Countess Almaviva, Kevin Baliviera as Count Almaviva, Stefania Seculin as Cherubino, Marzia Postogna as Marcellina, and Giacomo Segulia as Bartolo. The chamber formation of the Teatro Verdi Orchestra is led by Konzertmeister Stefano Furini, known for his work both in Trieste and with major ensembles such as Milan’s Teatro alla Scala.

The project marks a continuation of the Verdi’s outreach programming, which uses the more intimate Ridotto del Teatro Verdi as both a stage and a cultural salon. The venue regularly hosts one-act operas, musical press conferences, and informal gatherings for opera premieres, serving as an inviting space where the community can experience music in a relaxed, approachable setting.

Le Nozze di Figaro – Fantasia in un atto revisits the familiar characters and musical brilliance of Mozart’s original work while introducing a contemporary rhythm suited to today’s audiences. Magnanini, an experienced composer in educational and youth-oriented projects, has collaborated with several Italian institutions specializing in cultural engagement, including the Coccia Theater in Novara and the Fondazione Spontini Pergolesi.

Tickets are priced at €10, with a reduced rate of €5 for students and those under 18. Performances will be held at various times, including morning and early evening showings to accommodate school groups and families.
