The International Festival of Sacred Music continues this Sunday, October 26, with a concert dedicated to O Magnum Mysterium, one of the most celebrated texts in Christian liturgy. The performance will take place at 3:30 p.m. in the Duomo San Marco and feature the brass ensemble of the Teatro Giuseppe Verdi of Trieste, marking a new collaboration between the ensemble and the festival.

Under the direction of Maestro Francesco Castellana, the group—performing in a ten-piece formation—will present music from the Renaissance to the present day, including works by Andrea and Giovanni Gabrieli, William Byrd, Tomás Luis de Victoria, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, Anton Bruckner, Francis Poulenc, and Morten Lauridsen. The concert will highlight the expressive range of brass instruments, with arrangements by trombonist Domenico Lazzaroni.

Founded in 1994 by members of the Trieste opera orchestra, the Verdi Brass Ensemble regularly performs across Friuli Venezia Giulia and neighboring regions, showcasing the versatility of brass in both classical and contemporary repertoires.

Sunday’s concert will be introduced by Monsignor Orioldo Marson, president of Presenza e Cultura, the organization behind the festival together with the Centro Iniziative Culturali Pordenone. Now in its 34th edition, the festival is directed by Franco Calabretto and Eddi De Nadai, with support from Italy’s Ministry of Culture, the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, the City of Pordenone, and the Fondazione Friuli.

The event continues the festival’s mission to explore the intersection of faith and art through music, drawing together compositions that reflect the enduring spiritual mystery celebrated in O Magnum Mysterium.
