On October 20, the Trieste-Opicina Historic, one of Italy’s most storied vintage car races, will once again wind through the city’s streets and surrounding villages, reviving a motorsport tradition that dates back to 1911.
This year, the event offers a fresh twist: a focus on sustainability. Organized by the Club dei Venti all’Ora, the race has earned “ASI Green” certification, part of an effort to align vintage motorsport with environmentally conscious practices. The club has partnered with Net-Hero, a net-zero emissions company, to offset six tons of CO2, contributing to international reforestation projects.
The race will kick off from a restored Austro-Hungarian dockyard, a nod to Trieste’s industrial past, and includes skill tests on private roads. Among the cars, spectators can expect to see models that once carried racing legends like Tazio Nuvolari and Ada Pace, Italy’s pioneering female driver.
For Trieste, the event remains a celebration of its automotive heritage—now with an eye toward the future.
